About Pulmonology

Pulmonology deals with the lungs and breathing. Our chest physician sees patients with a cough that will not go away, breathlessness, wheezing, chest infections and tuberculosis, and people whose breathing has slowly worsened over years.

Loud snoring with pauses in breathing at night, and tiredness through the day, can be sleep apnoea, which strains the heart if it is not treated. A chest physician can find the cause and plan treatment.

Questions patients ask

When should I see a chest specialist?

See a chest physician for a cough lasting more than three weeks, breathlessness on walking or climbing stairs, wheezing, coughing up blood, frequent chest infections, or loud snoring with daytime sleepiness.

Is TB curable?

Yes. Tuberculosis is curable with a full course of medicines, usually for six months. Stopping early, even when you feel better, can make the infection come back in a form that is harder to treat.

Are inhalers safe to use every day?

Yes. Inhalers deliver a small dose of medicine straight to the lungs, so they work with fewer side effects than tablets. Use them exactly as your doctor advises, even on days you feel well.
