What should I do right after a burn?
Cool the burn under clean running tap water for 20 minutes, remove rings and tight clothing, and cover it loosely with a clean cloth. Do not apply ice, toothpaste or oil. Come to the hospital for any burn that is large, deep, or on the face, hands or genitals.
Can old burn scars be treated?
Yes. Tight or raised burn scars that limit movement can often be released and grafted, and their appearance improved. The plastic surgeon examines the scar and explains what can be done.
